I don't know how to answer this question, but if effort is being invested to expand the usefulness of the Swift compiler to non-English speakers, we should expect to see an increase in non-English speakers coming to the forums. If it is a goal of the Swift project to support users who speak many different languages (which, as points out, it appears to be), the forums should strive to support those community members as well. It could be an indication that nobody speaks the language in question, but it could mean countless different things as well. But total silence is, IMO, a very poor signal. Obviously, in the happy path where we have knowledgable community members who are able to provide useful answers in the language in question, there's no issue. This is precisely the issue that this thread intends to address. If such thread won’t receive any feedback that might be a signal to the author that it’s potentially due to a language barrier. I think it's indicative that non-English threads today generally don't have participants entering to ask the poster to translate. There are plenty of solutions available currently (self-translating, copy-pasting to machine translation services, etc.) that empower those who want to put in the effort to collaborate across languages, but they are high-friction and potentially increase noise in the forums. Building language detection into forums in a per-post manner would still potentially allow users to filter posts by language, or hide those that aren't in their native language if they're not interested in reading translations. Non-English speakers remain discouraged from participating in Swift Evolution discussions or other primarily-English threads. But even beyond that, dividing the forums like this seems antithetical to building a unitary Swift community. For one, it doesn't effectively solve the problem of languages for which there may only be novice users, without any experts to provide guidance. One small study in overweight people who took three grams of yerba mate supplement every day (without making any other changes) found they lost on average a pound and a half over 12 weeks. While you’ve heard all about the fat-burning potential of green tea, yerba mate can also help your body incinerate flab. “They think it’s due to the antioxidants found in mate,” says Brissette. One study found that drinking a cup and a half of yerba mate each day for 40 days helped people to significantly lower their levels of LDL cholesterol (that’s the bad kind). If you really have to go, a cup of coffee (or a laxative) might be a more efficient choice, though. Yerba mate contains caffeine-and we all know caffeine can make you poop. It's also sometimes used to relieve chronic fatigue syndrome, although there are no studies proving it actually works. “Anything high in caffeine, like coffee or tea, boosts energy levels, mental concentration to help you study or focus, and exercise performance so you’re able to exert more effort while feeling like you’re giving less effort,” says Brissette. Some human studies suggest that yerba mate might boast a number of health benefits, although the jury is still out on just how effective it is. “It’s even higher than green tea,” says nutritionist Christy Brissette, R.D., president of 80 Twenty Nutrition. Like many teas, yerba mate is also packed with antioxidants. It contains about a third of the amount of caffeine that you’d get from a cup of coffee (30 mg versus 100 mg of caffeine per eight ounces) along with other chemicals that stimulate the brain, heart, muscles, and blood vessels. Harrold has teamed up with gaming website Slingo to offer his etiquette knowledge on National Biscuit Day. Harrold, who served King Charles III when he was Prince of Wales, says a cup of tea should always be "sipped and enjoyed" and not be used as a medium for dunking - giving specific reasons why. But I can tell you from working on cars professionally for years there are LOTS of chain failures on both pushrod and OHC engines that happen out of the blue, without warning. Anyone with half a brain can look at the maintenance schedule, and know for sure when to perform the service. And in both cases, typically by 150k the chains were rattling around and the cost of replacement usually outweighs the value of the car.Īlso, a belt has a service interval. Bottom-feeder Nissan Sentras have used chains, as did cheapo Saturn S cars. They are lighter, require no oiling, and are MUCH simpler to service. Why? Because they are smoother, quieter, and do not give up precious degrees of cam timing over the life of the belt like chains do. Yes, I would rather have a timing belt than a chain. Your MB also has multivalving, again, apples to oranges. Once you learn how to do the belt change it is an easy job. Ĭan you do a timing chain in 1/2 an hour ? No you cannot. It takes me longer to find and clean up my tools and put them away afterwords than to actually change the belt. On the older cars IDIs & TDIs without having to remove all the extra parts of the A4 design take about an 1/2 an hour. If I really tried I bet it could be done in around 2 1/2 hours. Removing & reinstalling the parts to get to the belt took the most time, about 3 1/2 hours. No longer than the older belt design VW/Audi used for the last 30 years. The replacement of and the timing of the belt took about 20 minutes. I did an A4 TDI timing belt earlier this week. To me it makes it easier to time the engine once the belt is replaced. I for one don't see having to lock all the timing parts in place during the belt replacement as being a problem. And because the chain design is less precise timing isn't required to be as precise at change time. Timing chain systems have to give up mpgs and power because the timing chain system loose preciseness over time. If the timing belt was simple to change, I wouldn't be b!tching." Looking at the instructions, I'd say changing a timing chain on an old MB diesel is much easier than changing the belt on a modern TDI, but I know it's kind of apples and oranges. What wears out timing belts is age and heat because it's rubber. What wears out a quality timing chain is particles in the oil, hence the need to change the oil regularly. But one gentleman on the MB forum has pushed his timing chain over 500K miles, and it still isn't dangerously stretched. "tjl, I'm totally aware that timing chains wear out too, eventually. And belts also don't stretch which gives more precise mechanical timing over the life of the engines' opertation which makes it perform more efficiently. So belts are used because they are reliable & cheaply replaced. Not to mention the fact that it can cost as much as 5 to 10 times as much to replace a chain as compared to the same engine with a belt driven cam system. I know many don't replace them and get away with it, but the manufacturer still recomends the replacement interval. ġ0 years or 150,000 miles is the common replacement interval on an interferance type timing chain engines. Īnd don't believe that a car equipped with a timing chain last forever, timing chains do stretch & they do break. I prefer not to go beyond the 5 year point mysself though. Ħ years is at the outside range of what is acceptable and safe. The car only has 25,000 miles on the clock but the belt was over 6 years old. I changed a belt on a 2000 automatic TDI last week. Manual trans cars have longer mileage change interval as compared to automatic trans equipped car. Click to expand.6 years is the rated range of the current timing belts, nothing to do with miles on the clock. For this blog, I’ve set up a token that only has ‘Read’ access to the ‘KuberDemo’ Vault. After logging in you should see something like the screenshot below.Ĭlick on ‘Secrets Automation’ and you will be guided through a simple setup process where you’ll name your environment, set up the first access token, and grant access to one or more Vaults. For personal accounts this will be at typically. You can set this up from the 1Password web UI. The next step is to set up a 1Password Integration. I’m also going to add a few dummy secrets in there that we will use later. For this blogpost, I’m just going to add a single Vault named ‘KuberDemo’. As per Conway’s Law, your solution will heavily mirror your organization structure here. For a more production-ready setup you would probably be looking at different Vaults per application (so you can configure access to the secrets easily based on teams), and probably per environment. While the first part isn’t technically required, I think it’s a good idea to set up a separate 1Password Vault for infrastructure secrets at this point. Setting up an Integration to use in Kubernetes. The first thing we need to do is configure 1Password so that we can use it for infrastructure secrets. Or maybe you’re trying to kill two birds with one stone for your company, and using 1Password means introducing a good enterprise-ready password management solution that also works for infrastructure secrets. Maybe you already use 1Password as your personal password manager. Well, maybe you’re working on a personal side project that needs to run on Kubernetes but setting up Vault feels like overkill, and AWS Secrets Manager isn’t free, and maybe SealedSecrets is a little too complex for your taste. Today we’re looking at integrating Kubernetes with 1Password. Or Bitnami SealedSecrets, which allows you to encrypt secrets properly so that you can store them in Git. Solutions like HashiCorp Vault or AWS Secrets Manager are great solutions for this. There are many solutions built specifically for secrets management, and a lot of them can actually be used with Kubernetes. So quite often we’ll look for a way to store secrets outside of Kubernetes and then deploy them into a cluster. Except that the secrets are not really encrypted (just base64 encoded), and actually storing them in Kubernetes is a bad idea for many reasons (long story short: infrastructure is unreliable and nobody wants to backup/restore Kubernetes). Kubernetes offers Secrets as a clean abstraction to store sensitive information separate from deployment config, and apply access controls to it. Now let’s add Kubernetes into the mix as well. Passwords are floating around in config files, and it’s no exception to find plain-text credentials in a Git repository somewhere. Infrastructure and systems are even worse. Larger enterprises, however, are often still struggling here and you’ll find password-protected Excel sheets, KeePass files and loads of shadow IT floating around. And nowadays most people have some sort of password manager, whether it be integrated in their operating system or browser, or a dedicated password management tool like 1Password or LastPass. And also: please give me a means to make all this secure behaviour easy for me. Use passwords that are difficult to guess. Don’t write down your passwords on sticky notes. In this blog I’ll show you how to set it up.ĭon’t use the same password twice. Sounds good? According to 1Password this is even enterprise-ready. Tessellation In Islamic Art and Architecture Escher and a number of contemporary artists who are using the concepts of tiling to create artworks in a variety of media.Ī type of wall decoration used in the Uruk (VI–IV) and Jemdet Nasr periods of southern Mesopotamia Today, we can talk about tessellation art of the great M.C. During the Middle Ages through the 19th century, a group of intellectuals began observing tessellation present in nature in order to explain its geometric structures, which resulted in numerous studies based on mathematics. Of course, the nature and design of tiling varied, as they evolved and adapted to match each of these cultures and traditions. From there, tessellation found its place in the art of many civilizations, from the Egyptians, Persians, Romans and Greeks to the Byzantines, Arabs, the Japanese, Chinese and the Moors. Origin of tessellation can be traced back to 4,000 years BC, when the Sumerians used clay tiles to compose decoration features in their homes and temples. In fact, the very word “tessellation” comes from Latin tessellātus, meaning “of small square stones” made of stone, clay or glass, and from Greek τέσσερα - tessera, meaning “four”, both alluding to the fact that the first tilings were made from square tiles, as the easiest shapes from which to create a pattern.Īn example of a semi regular tessellationīecause of their characteristics and decorative aesthetics, tessellations were used in art and architecture alike, providing coverings for walls, pavements and ceilings of many facilities. Although it derives from a clear set of rules based on mathematical shapes and calculations - a fact which might give out the impression that there is no space for creativity - tessellations have been widely accepted in a great number of cultures, and are employed in many spheres of life such as design and art.Īlso known as tiling, the process of creating a tessellation can be based on a regular, semiregular geometric or non-geometric shape or tile, which are then all lined up next to each other as basic elements checkered to assemble larger complex construction. Do you know what is the definition of tessellation and what does it take to create one? When a geometric shape is repeated over and over again, covering a plane of tiles without any gaps or overlaps, it results in a tessellation - a mosaic pattern of a mesmerizing visual effect. |
